Jack "Germond-Oohhh" Explained
Let's face it, McGoofy Group was never the same after Jack & Pat left. (Well okay, they were both left all along. It just took a while for the truth to become clear in Pat's case.)
Back in those days, when I was but a young lad, I used to wonder how Jack could spout all that crazy leftist blather about economics, and really believe that any of it was true.
My wondering days are now over: Jack doesn't understand math! The sudden realization hit me while listening to the radio. I happened upon this snippet of Morning Edition on NPR, in which Jack talked about his obsession with horse racing.
From the website: "He has been going to places like [Charlestown Races and Slots in Charlestown, West Virginia] for more than 40 years. Horseplayers around the country share Germond's hobby nearly every day. These are people who don't need an attempt at the Triple Crown to find passion at the track."
Passion and penury, I'm sure. Jack ends his segment with a comment about how he hopes to "finally figure out this business and win a big jackpot."
Well Jack, I'm not one to brag, but I figured out "the business" years ago and it works something like this: The only person who gets rich at the racetrack is the bookie.
