Only the second time I’ve ever spotted a tree frog. Can you imagine why?
Bald-Faced Hornet
Since they are considered to be a beneficial insect, I would probably have let this queen build her nest in peace. Except she was building it on my extension ladder.
Spring Moths
First-time photographs of two moths that I found in the backyard.
Cormorant Poop Tree
A tree used for nesting (and pooping) by many, many cormorants.
Sandy Ridge in April
Birding is good at Sandy Ridge Reservation in North Ridgeville.
Red Admiral
Wood Duck Shimmer
Iridescent rainbows on the feathers of this female wood duck at the Beaver Marsh / Ira Road Trailhead. Also, male wood duck close-up.
Alderfer-Chatfield Butterfly Roundup
A morning walk through the Alderfer-Chatfield Nature Preserve turned up a huge number of butterfly sightings…
Backyard Turkeys
The Wife spotted this mama turkey and her juvenile offspring in the backyard.
Limpkin
A rarity outside of Florida, this bird was spotted at Knopf Family Reservation and created quite a stir in the Ohio birding scene. I was walking the trail and a local woman asked me if I was looking for the Limpkin. I said “yes.” She said, “It’s down this path, you cant miss it, there are a bunch of them.” And I was like, “A bunch of Limpkins!?” and she laughed and replied, “No, photographers!”
